Rowing

Rowing is all about having fun, making friends, being healthy, and sometimes just escaping to a wonderful stretch of water. The Royal School Rowing Club has developed links with Portadown Boat Club. The Boat Club has developed training programmes for beginners right through to high performance athletes and have a range of facilities to suit all abilities and ages. As one of the most physically demanding of all Olympic Sports, the rowers are trained in strength / endurance / flexibility and mental fitness to ensure that they can perform at the highest levels.

A number of Royal School pupils are members of the Boat Club and take up the opportunities of racing, training and travelling to other clubs for races. Rowing is a sport that takes place throughout the year.

Oct – Apr is the Head of the River races. These are usually in the 3 – 6 kilometre range and are on rivers (The Oxford Boat race is an example).

Apr – Oct is the Regatta Season. These are no longer than 2km and have buoyed lanes (just like the Olympics).
