The Royal School Armagh Welcomes Minister Paul Givan MLA

This morning we were delighted to play host to the Minister of Education, Mr Paul Givan MLA. Mr Givan was greeted on his arrival by the Head Girl, Molly and Deputy Head Boy Sam, His Grace Rev John Mcdowell, Archbishop of Armagh in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Governors, the vice principals Mrs Murray and Mr Hooks, Mr McConnell the bursar and the headmaster.

After signing the visitors book Mr Givan was taken to Furlong House to meet with members of the school’s Combined Cadet Force Contingent (CCF). The CCF was created at school in 1916 and is now one of the most popular extra curricular activities. Mr Givan met cadets undertaking map reading exercises, watched a drill exercise and discussed field craft and military ration packs.

The minister then visited the Reid Hall for three excellent musical items by pupils before being taken on a tour of the senior boarding facilities. Afterwards Mr Givan had lunch with senior governors and pupils. During lunch there was a discussion about the school’s history, ethos and role in the community.
