Vision, Virtues & Values

Shaping sound character and academic achievement since 1608.

A Heritage of Excellence

Founded in 1608 by King James VI of Scotland and I of England to provide education for the sons of the English and Scots settlers moving to Ulster at the time of the plantation, the school was given its first vision statement by King James’ son, King Charles in 1627.

Today these twin aims, to promote learning and academic achievement alongside the development of sound character remain central to everything we do as a school.

“For the Increase of learning and good manners”

King Charles, 1627

Our Virtues: The 3 C’s

The vision is achieved through the promotion of three important virtues. They underpin everything we do here at the school.

Our Values

Day by day, in our interactions we endeavour to live out the virtues by displaying our values. These values have been agreed through discussion with pupils, staff and governors. They are proudly echoed in the STRIPES on our junior school tie: a daily reminder of the development we seek in every member of our community.

S

Service

Putting the needs of others above our own, building a compassionate and kind school and impacting the local community and beyond.

T

Togetherness

Working as an inclusive community, supporting one another, and celebrating our differences and shared success.

R

Respect

Treating everyone with kindness, fairness, and dignity.

I

Integrity

Acting honestly and taking responsibility for our actions, even when no one is watching.

P

Perseverance

Being resilient, overcoming challenges, and always striving to do our best.

E

Excellence

Aiming high in all we do, taking pride in our learning, behaviour, and achievements.

S

Safety

Creating a secure environment where everyone feels protected, valued, and free to learn.
